Having been involved with both artistic and purely functional interior design since before interior design was well recognized on Vancouver Island, has allowed for a very broad design portfolio and many areas of service expertise.

Design is a service industry, designers work with their clients to fulfill a need. Good design is creative, functional, life-changing and integral to the creation of everything that is made or built. An education in both art and architecture grew roots in both artistic and functional design. JC has a varied and international design portfolio which generated experience in many areas of design service and specialty expertise.

I have often been asked why I have not established a signature style. The brilliant architect Renzo Piano (Centre Pompidou) when asked why it is not essential, articulated my design approach perfectly. I have always loved the fact that, in our profession, every time you do a new job, it's a new story.
Commercial

Commercial design has great value in the workplace, it is one of the largest sectors of interior design due to corporate and government offices, retail and institutional clients. Although most people understand design as something that happens for homes and restaurants, banks and office towers, the smaller workplace is often overlooked, or an office furnishings company provides some design services along with the desks they sell.

During my long career, which has focussed on healthy, ecological design solutions for hospitality and residential clients, there has never been a more important time for owners and operators to pay attention to how - Design Can Make a Difference. Currently we are creating sidewalk patios where cars parked last year, and I was part of the advocacy letter writing to mayors and the provincial government, that created this new opportunity.
