If you are contemplating the redesign of your current home or are ready to build your new family home, you may feel uncertain of where to start. This consultation package will provide you with the resources you need to clarify your vision and give you a clear understanding of the process you are about to undertake.
Two violinists approached us to design a new home to provide a warm and welcoming location where family, friends, and fellow musicians could assemble to have frequent small concerts in their home. Right from the beginning, individual inspirations were identified for the design of their home: A highly coveted pottery collection and a childhood reference to Palm Beach Florida Architecture.
Working closely with the client, it did not take long to see that the existing bungalow and the York Mills context itself excited us to get right to work. The project attracted the attention of the entire office who competed with different small scale models to best express these ideas. 3 An interior stone faade that is discovered two feet below the rotunda.
One approaches this fantastic collage of volumes and materials by descending thirty feet from the local road down to a vehicle forecourt. The house reveals the picturesque golf course beyond in a two storey entrance and living room volume. A two-storey, six foot thick stone utility wall passes from the front, through the interior and out to the rear landscape.
When a music producer, jazz musician and teenage daughter contemplated the idea of converting an existing factory into their new home, we did not skip a beat and joined in on this unbelievable gig! The project began by entering a dark, cold and unfriendly industrial space with flashlights, hardhats and safety boots.
